2026 Travel Awards, Round 2
At the beginning of this year, I launched a new, independent travel award. Please check out the original blog post for complete details!
Application for 2026, Round 2 are now open!
I ultimately decided to offer three awards per period, two for patients and one for trainees. The first round winners were:
Jud “Bruce” Kimmel, a neuroendocrine patient advocate, attending ASCO and SNMMI.
Anna Hedden, an ovarian cancer patient advocate, attending AACR.
Darius Benimana, a medical student at the University of Rawanda, attending CRDWC.
Round 2 applications will be due June 21, 2026 at 1159PM MST.
Here are the details:
Each award supports up to $500 for any expenses related to travel for a scientific meeting related to cancer
Award can be used to supplement other available support, such as residency academic funds
Eligible trainees: those enrolled and active in any training program related to healthcare
Eligible patients: those with an active cancer diagnosis or a history of cancer
1 award for trainees and 2 awards for patients are available in each half-year period
The goal is a versatile travel award for trainees and patients that is a low burden for all involved. The awards come from my personal funds and I will select the winners based on the answers in this very short application.
Winners are expected to show proof of registration and expenses and to enjoy their time at the conference!
